When I was born, my birth certificate indicated my names as Elizabeth Porter. However, I was always called Betsy. Either in late 1969 or spring of 1970, Mother had my name legally changed to "Betsy" and the birth certificate was ammended to show the name change. The name change occurred before I got a driver's license or a social security card. I've always used Besty for all legal dealings.

Wlayslaw Kasrylewicz was born 8/17/1929 in Loda, Poland to parents, Harry Kasrylewicz and Eva Rosencrantz. The family had to give up their home and business and moved to Kielce, Ghetta, Poland. Here Walter's little sister, Rysia, 8 years of age, was killed by the Gestapo, as the family watched. Over 60 members of Walter's family were lost during the war, most by extermination.

After Wlayslaw came to the United States, his given name was translated to Walter and his sir-name became Kase.

Walter's mother was separated from him and his father as they were sent to different concentration camps. The camps where Walter and his father were are: Pionki Labor Camp, Auswitch, Sosnowic, Mauthausen, Gusen, Guntzkirche. They were liberated by Patton's Army, 3rd. Armored Division on, May 5th, 1945, after a time of 5 years in the camps. Walter's father passed away just 5 days after being liberated.

Some time later Walter found his mother, who is still living at this time.(8/2006)

All of the above occurred before Walter was 16 years of age.
