Event Description: GRAVE UNMARKED
General Notes: Husband - Frederick Walser
Information from the office of Descendants of Mexican War Veterans, Richardson, TX., indicates that Frederick was a member of the First Regiment of North Carolina Volunteers and served during the Mexican War. Further information obtained from The Adjutant General's Office, Washington, DC, Oct. 11, 1937 by Agnes Ruth (Walser) Chapman, verifies the above information.
In addition the letter verifies that Frederick enrolled November 30, 1846 in Davidson County, North Carolina and was mustered in March 5, 1847 at Wilmington, NC. in the Mexican War and was discharged October 16, 1847 at Saltillo, Mexico for disability. He died in the hospital November 1847, exact date not known, after being discharged.
Letter unsigned, Major General, The Adjutant General.
The Mexican Government has erected a monument at the site of Buena Vista Battlefield, commerating the battle, but it does not contain any names and all soldiers were buried in unmarked graves. 2
