William T. Price enlisted at Alto Springs as a Private in Company B, 5th Calvary, Greens Brigade, Hardiman"s Division, Trans-Mississippi Army. While enroute to Val Verde, New Mexico with Captain Willis L. Lange, he contracted the measles at El Paso, and was left behind there--thus missing the tragic battle. Later he bacame the Bugler for the company and was in Galveston at the time of the surrender--remaining there for about a year after the end of the war, to care for a sick friend. 1
