Lodwick came to Texas at the age of six. Lodwick's parent had died some years earlier. He and his sibs (apparently) were being reared by his uncle William Vaden. He stayed with his uncle until he was seventeen years old. At that time, he joined the Confederate army and served for four years. (from notes received from Jim Wilson.)
