William George Robertson: 2nd. Lt., Co. E, 18th Alabama Infantry, C. S. A.
*recruited from Tuscaloosa, Shelby, Talladega, Covington, Coffee, Pike, Coosa, Butler and Jefferson
counties.
*assigned to J. K. Jackson's Brigade
*had major roll in battle of Shiloh
*fought at Chickamauga, Nashville, Spanish Fort, and Chattanooga.
*captured at Missionary Ridge and was prisoner of war until end of war.

Samuel L. Robertson served two enlistments in the Confederate Army, which is normal---most enlistments were for 6 month to a year, and enlistees were placed  where they were needed.

Samuel L. Robertson, Sgt. , Co. F., 4th Alabama (Russell's Cavalry)---this unit was the consolidation of the 3rd. Tenn. Cav., the 15th Tenn. Cav., the 4th Alabama Battalion, and Russell's Rangers.

Assigned to Gen. J. T. Morgan and Gen. W.W. Allen's Brigade.  They fought at Lexington, Trenton, Jackson, Parker's Cross Roads and Chickamauga----Field Officers  were Col. Alfred A. Russell; Lt. Col. J. M. Hambrick; Maj. F. M. Taylor.

There were 3 other Robertsons in this unit:  George M. Robertson, T. P. Robertson, and W.N. Robertson.
Note: These may or may not be relatives.

Second Enlistment: Samuel L. Robertson, 4th Cpz., Co. K 8th (Hatch's) Alabama Cavalry (re-assigned or re-enlistment).  Organized in Newborn, Alabama with men from Tuscaloosa, Sumter, Dallas, Greene, Marengo, Choctaw and Fayette counties.
*fought with Gen. Pillow at Blue Mountain, then assigned to Armistead's Brigade
*fought at Lafayette, Georgia
*moved to Selma, Alabama
*served at Talladega, Alabama
*fought in Florida
* surrendered May 14, 1865 at Gainesville
*Commanders were: Col. Charles P. Ball; Col. Lemuel D. Hatch; Maj. Wm. T. Poe,  Maj. Richard H.
