Event Description: REMAINS MOVED 1983 TO YADKIN COLLEGE CEMETERY, DAVIDSON COUNTY, NORTHCAROLINA*, FAG-17816715
General Notes: Husband - Frederick Walser
Tombstone and remains moved to Yadkin College Cemetery in 1983
Frederick's parents, Casper & Margaretha Walser, moved to Rowan
County, North Carolina, from Lincoln County, Pennsylvania in 1770.
1983-- Frederick's remains and others were moved and reburied in Yadkin College Cemetery
because of a new highway being built in the area of the Walser Cemetery.
Grave marker inscription: Pvt. Cowans NC Co., Rev. War--12/24/1837. Called into service as a Minuteman by Capt. Douglas Hade in 1780. In 1781, served Capt. Thomas Cowan in the regiment of Col. F. Locke. Acted as guard of prisoners of British soldiers who were captured at Eutah Springs, SC., and marched them to Henry County, VA., where they were received by VA authorities. 1
General Notes: Wife - Margaretha (Margaret) Ernst
Margaret was probably buried in the Walser Cemetery located near the junction of Hwy. 64 and the Yadkin River. In 1983, the highway was widened and the only readable tombstone in the cemetery was that of Frederick, her husband. This stone and all the recoverable remains of the cemetery were reinterred in a mass grave at the Yadkin College Cemetery. 1
General Notes: Child - Henry C. Walser
Henry was co-founder of Yadkin College and lived on Dykers Creek at
the Yadkin River. He was the owner of slaves.
Tombstone inscription: He was an honest man, a true friend, a kind husband and a devoted father. He was a magistrate member of the Legislature Union Elector in 1860 and the founder of Yadkin College and for 25 years, Chairman of it's Board of Trustees. He crowned a long and useful life with a Christian's triumphant death. 1
General Notes: Child - John Walser
1830 CENSUS SHOW 4 DAUGHTERS AND 3 SONS--ALL UN-NAMED
In all probability, John was buried in the Walser Cemetery on Hwy 64. Unfortunately, none of the tombstones, other than Fredericks, survived the long years.
